Après le fiasco Batman & Robin, commis par Joel Schumacher en 1997, on croyait Batman relégué aux oubliettes du cinéma pour longtemps. En confiant la célèbre chauve-souris aux soins de Christopher Nolan, l'un des réalisateurs les plus inventifs du moment (Memento, Insomnia), Warner a indéniablement fait un choix judicieux. Loin d'être un familier du personnage créé par Bob Kane en 1939 (pour DC Comics), Nolan a sollicité le savoir en la matière du scénariste David S. Goyer (réalisateur de Blade Trinity) et choisi de remonter aux sources du mythe, période la moins explorée dans le comic-book, et jamais montrée au cinéma.
Aux effets spéciaux, le cinéaste a préféré le réalisme et la psychologie pour réaliser en 2005 un film épique et romantique, proche des albums de Frank Miller. La distribution est idéale, et autour de l'impeccable Christian Bale, on ne peut que se réjouir de la présence de Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson ou Cillian Murphy. Vivement la suite !
